A Return to Wellness
I am a 43-year-old recovering addict, with a 20-year history of serious addiction to narcotics. My disease knew no bounds in my unrelenting desire for increasing quantities of drugs. As time passed, it became impossible for me to satisfy my cravings. I found myself trapped in a hell I was powerless to get out of. My pain, anguish and desperation were beyond measure. I came to a point where I felt that I couldn't possibly escape from my plight, and began to accept that I would be dependent on narcotics for the remainder of my life.
It was late in December of 1999 that I first learned of Ibogaine. An Associated Press newspaper article crossed my desk about an obscure ritual substance from Africa, the derivative of the root-bark of a small shrub. A powerful, natural substance with extraordinary properties, Ibogaine was also claimed to have an amazing effect in the treatment of addiction to narcotics. It seemed incredible, too good to be true. I remember thinking, "Could there really be something in nature's pharmacopoeia that will work for an addiction as serious as mine?"
It seemed highly unlikely, but the seed was planted, and I had to find out. After doing what research I could, I ended up contacting Healing Visions and Dr. Deborah Mash. I didn't know it yet, but the incredible adventure I was about to embark upon was destined to change my life - forever!
It all came together quickly and miraculously, by the grace of God. And before I knew it, I was standing on the shores of a most beautiful, magical, Caribbean island - St. Kitts in the West Indies. I have been transformed from head to toe. The most amazing thing is that the process continues to unfold five months after the fact. I realize that it will continue indefinitely, so long as I work at it. Health and personal growth are developing within me every day, and these are the basic components of genuine recovery. It has been, and continues to be, a "return to wellness." The plant-teacher has made the difference between this recovery attempt and others I have made. The depth and power of the experience I had almost defies description. Without a doubt, it began a profound healing in me. I wouldn't trade my unfolding recovery and well-being for all the drugs in the world!
